The Smiths Falls Bears have joined seven other organizations to form the North American Hockey Association.
The new league will help replace the Hockey Eastern Ontario u18 AAA program that was cancelled earlier this year.
Smiths Falls will be one of the participating clubs.
Club owner and governor Josh Filoso said the NAHA will help teams keep tabs on the development of the young core.
Filoso says watching prospects develop into potential stars is the work he enjoys.
The NAHA will feature a 42 game schedule, with various breaks in between to incorporate showcase tournaments, starting in September.
Filoso said this will have no impact on their EOJHL or CCHL Bears teams, and the NAHA operates independently of Hockey Canada.
The other participating franchises include Brockville, Cornwall, Kingston, Ottawa East, Ottawa West, and Montreal’s South Shore and West Island.
