It’s seeds of success day on Lake 88.
Derek Oliver followed the typical farm boy story. Growing up on his parents Rideau Ferry road dairy farm, starting with small tasks and gaining more responsibility as he got older.
Heading to school to learn farm management, Oliver said it was his plan to return home to one day take things over alongside his older brother, and that’s the way he says things are looking now.
Now back on the 700 acre plot after taking farm management in school, Oliver says this was the only life for him.
And he’s proud of Canadian producers and the work they do.
Since the pandemic, Oliver says input costs have skyrocketed, but thankfully they’re starting to settle a little now, which he largely contributes to the federal supply management system.
