Jodi Empey has been appointed the Acting Chief of Police as of January 1st.
The Deputy Chief for the Smiths Falls Police Service assumes the role following the retirement of outgoing Chief Mark MacGillivray.
MacGillivray had some kind words for his co-worker, and he’s more than confident she’ll fill the role perfectly.
Empey will continue to serve as Deputy Chief on top of her new duties for the time being and made brief remarks at the police services board meeting Friday morning.
Empey became the first woman to be named deputy chief in the history of the Smiths Falls Police Service when she took over in July 2022 for the retired Rick Labelle, and has been with the SFPS since 1994.
