In Lanark County, three municipalities have recently voted in favor of exploring the concept of basic income. The Town of Perth, Tay Valley Township, and Smiths Falls join at least 20 other municipalities in Ontario that have passed similar resolutions in the past 13 months.
The Lanark Basic Income Network (LBIN) announced the news, highlighting the councils’ call for the federal, provincial, and territorial governments to collaborate on the program. The goal is to design, introduce, implement, and evaluate a national basic income guarantee program for working-age adults.
LBIN expressed its pleasure at this development and encourages more municipalities to consider supporting basic income. The growing support for basic income reflects a broader movement across Ontario, aiming to address economic challenges and improve the quality of life for residents.
