The start of Sexual Assault Awareness Month is bringing a series of events aimed at education, remembrance and support across Lanark County, with advocates urging residents to take part in visible acts of solidarity.
The latest episode of Silence Broken: The IPV Talks, highlights the return of the We Stand With Survivors campaign, which will again see a banner displayed in Carleton Place as a public show of support for survivors.
It also pointed to Red Dress Day events in Almonte, Perth and Smiths Falls. Co-host Erin Lee calls them important opportunities for reflection on violence against Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people.
Lee says public displays — even hanging a red garment at home — can help spark awareness and conversation.
The episode also promotes a May 8 webinar on cross-border collaboration to end gender-based violence.
The podcast, with guest Emma Kinsman, notes the month’s events are meant not only to inform, but to encourage action — one step at a time.
