Nate Morris is running for Mayor in Smiths Falls.
We asked him the age old question: If he supports keeping the Smiths Falls Police Service, or is in favour of OPP policing.
Morris would like to implement performance-based budgeting, which would use collected data to assist council on drawing up their operational budget. He said if that’s done and it shows a better argument for OPP coverage, then he’d listen.
This type of budget also enhances transparency, he argued.
As a private citizen, Morris has been vocal about his concerns with the town’s top staff surrounding the cleanliness of the drinking water, and pledged to oust CAO Malcom Morris and others if elected.
Morris says his first 100 days in office would focus on restructuring leadership and improving accountability at town hall. His platform includes separating the roles of Town Solicitor and Integrity Commissioner, launching a community-informed hiring panel, and beginning a public review of governance and transparency practices.
