Past Perth Mayor John Fenik is once throwing his hat in the political ring, but not where he served in the role from 2006 to 2022.
Fenik tells LanarkLeedsToday.ca that he has filed his nomination papers to run for Councillor in Ward 4,
North Crosby-Newboro in Rideau Lakes.
“I am running because citizens in Rideau Lakes township deserve a council that can work together and move the agenda forward,” said Fenik. “With the right people around the table, the possibilities are limitless,” he added.
Candidates have until Friday, August 21st to file nomination papers ahead of the October 26th municipal elections in the province.
Deborah Anne Hutchings and Ron Pollard currently hold the two seats in Ward 4. Neither has declared their candidacy as of yet.
In fact, according to the township’s election website, Fenik is the only candidate to file papers to date for any position around the horseshoe.
The current term of council in Rideau Lakes has been mired in controversy, integrity commissioner reports, lawsuits, and in-fighting that has played out in the public eye during council meetings and through public statements.
