Parking in downtown Smiths Falls is getting a little easier.
The town says the Market Street Lot is now transitioning to a QR code parking payment system. The change is meant to make it quicker and more convenient for people to pay for parking while visiting the downtown core.
Drivers will be able to scan a QR code posted at the lot and use an online portal to buy a parking pass. The town says the system can be used for one-time or day-use permits, with no account required.
People who park downtown more often can also create an online account through the town’s parking portal.
The change means drivers will no longer need to search for spare change when using the Market Street Lot. The town says the new process is designed to save time and make downtown parking more convenient for residents, workers and visitors.
New QR code signs are expected to be installed at the lot within the next week.
Monthly and quarterly parking permits will remain unchanged.
