The heart of The Table Community Food Centre can often be found in its kitchen.
On a recent visit for What’s Good, volunteers were busy helping chef Joey prepare one of the weekly community meals in Perth.
The sounds of food being made and people working together helped tell the story before the interview even began.
Rob Rainer, executive director of The Table, says the meals are a major part of what the organization offers.
The meals offer more than food. They create a place where people can feel welcome, share space with neighbours and know they are part of a caring community.
Rainer says that work is only possible because people continue to show up for one another.
And it’s not all about the cash. Those supporters also include volunteers, local businesses, farms, grocery stores and donors from across Perth, Smiths Falls and surrounding rural areas.
Rainer says the support is encouraging and shows how deeply people care about their neighbours.
For The Table, every meal is a reminder that community support can be served one plate at a time.
