A 39-year-old Carleton Place man is facing charges after an intimate partner violence investigation in the community.
Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police say officers began the investigation on Saturday, June 20, shortly after 12:30 a.m.
Police were called to a disturbance at an address in the Town of Carleton Place.
As a result of the investigation, the man was charged with assault, overcome resistance by attempting to choke, suffocate or strangle another person, and resisting a peace officer.
OPP say the accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth at a later date.
Police are not releasing the name of the accused in order to protect the identity of the victim.
The case is being treated as an intimate partner violence investigation.

OPP say help is available for survivors, and people do not have to face violence or abuse on their own.
The charges have not been proven in court.
The investigation follows continued calls from police and community agencies for people to report violence, seek help and reach out before situations become more dangerous.
