A single-vehicle crash in Lanark Highlands Township has led to impaired driving charges against a Drummond-North Elmsley Township resident.
Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police responded to County Road 511 between Proulx Road and Dobbie Road on Friday, July 17.
Officers found the vehicle shortly after 9:45 p.m.
A male passenger and a child were taken to hospital by Lanark County Paramedics as a precaution. Police did not provide details about possible injuries.
After speaking with the driver, officers arrested her and transported her to the Lanark County OPP detachment in Perth for further testing.
Thirty-year-old Sarah Timmerman has been charged with operating a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal limit.
She was also charged with driving with liquor readily available, failing to ensure a passenger under the age of 16 was seated in a position with a seatbelt and failing to surrender an insurance card.
The charges have not been proven in court.
Timmerman was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Perth on Monday, August 31.
Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days under an administrative suspension, while the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
OPP continue to remind drivers that impaired driving can put passengers, children and other road users at serious risk. Police encourage anyone who sees a suspected impaired driver to call 911 when it is safe to do so and provide the vehicle’s location, direction of travel and description.
