Smiths Falls Council has approved the Town’s Climate Action Plan, establishing a roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and guide sustainability efforts.

The Plan sets ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 20 per cent below 2021 levels by 2031, 45 per cent by 2036, and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050
Councillor Chris McGuire said he is pleased with the overall document, but noted one key exclusion.
Key recommendations include supporting residential energy retrofit programs, encouraging low-impact development and green building standards, expanding electric vehicle charging infrastructure, promoting on-demand transit options, improving waste diversion, protecting natural assets, and increasing public education on climate issues.
