Tay Valley Township Reeve Rob Rainer will not seek re-election this fall, bringing his eight years on municipal council to an end.
Rainer says he has enjoyed his time in municipal politics but believes eight years is enough. He was first elected as a councillor in 2018 and became reeve in 2022.
Rainer says he is pleased the other seven members of the current eight-member council are seeking re-election, and isn’t outright against the idea of returning to politics at the provincial or federal level..
Rainer says his age, some health concerns and the time and travel required at higher levels of government would factor into any future decision.
Rainer was the Ontario Liberal candidate in Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston in the 2025 provincial election
He says he is proud of the township’s Forest Trail Park, the work done to open up development in the Maberly Pines subdivision and the Township’s financial position.
Rainer is encouraging residents to vote in the October municipal election and says he hopes turnout exceeds 50 per cent.
