A St. John Catholic High School graduate has received the 2026 Tay Valley History Scholarship.
Rowan McKenzie, who will pursue an Honours Arts degree at Queen’s University, received a $1,600 scholarship and a copy of the legacy book At Home in Tay Valley.
In his scholarship application, McKenzie wrote that everyone has a duty to learn from the past, recognize when harm is being done in the present and help create positive change.
Kay Rogers, chair of the History Scholarship Committee, said the quality of applicants continues to impress the committee. She said McKenzie stood out for his passion for history, critical thinking and writing ability.
The scholarship is awarded annually to a graduating student from Perth & District Collegiate Institute or St. John Catholic High School who has been accepted into a post-secondary program.
Recipients must demonstrate an interest in history, strong critical thinking and communication skills, as well as a range of accomplishments or experiences.
The scholarship is supported by local businesses, community groups and individuals, along with proceeds from sales of At Home in Tay Valley.
