Natalia Soteroff stands ready to welcome the Food Bank's clients
Smiths Falls residents will have a chance to help stock the Community Food Bank as 92.3 WOW FM brings back its All Hands on Deck Food Drive on Thursday, Aug. 27.
The drive runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jonsson’s Independent Grocer, with donations of food, basic essentials, gift cards and cash being accepted.
Smiths Falls Community Food Bank Executive Director Natalia Soteroff says late summer has become an especially demanding time for the organization.
Families face additional expenses as September approaches, while children who have been home for the summer prepare to return to classrooms.
That creates demand for items that can help households put together lunches and snacks while managing other back-to-school costs.
The event comes after another busy summer for the food bank, which continues serving residents from a wide range of circumstances.
Organizers are encouraging shoppers to add something extra to their carts or make a financial contribution during the six-hour drive.
This year’s All Hands on Deck Food Drive is presented by title sponsor Saumure Group of Companies, with Hanks Tirecraft serving as truck sponsor and North & Bun sponsoring the Power Hour.
All donations collected during the event will support the Smiths Falls Community Food Bank and the local families who rely on it.
