The Smiths Falls Community Hospital Auxiliary may be best known for fundraising, but much of its work happens quietly inside the hospital every day.
The volunteer group supports patients, families and staff through Toast & Tea, information desks, clinic support, meal assistance and portering. Members operate the hospital gift shop, organize events and help make the hospital experience easier.
Auxiliary President Jackie Staples says the group has been serving the hospital in its current form since 2002, after an earlier auxiliary disbanded in 1992.
Staples says one long-running program reflects the Auxiliary’s connection to local families.
The organization’s reach extends beyond day-to-day volunteer service. Money raised through its activities is returned to the hospital to support broader priorities.
Staples says that support can grow when needs come forward.
The Auxiliary is looking for volunteers and encourages people to bring skills and interests.
For Staples, the work is about community members finding ways to support patients, families and the hospital teams caring for them.
