It takes many different hands to keep the Smiths Falls Community Food Bank moving, and some volunteers are finding creative ways to make time to help.
Executive Director Natalia Soteroff says the volunteer team includes retirees, students completing high school hours and young people taking part in the summer YIPI program.
Some longtime volunteers have been helping for nearly 20 years.
Others fit volunteering around busy jobs and commutes.
Soteroff says bringing younger volunteers into the food bank is especially encouraging because they get to work alongside people who have spent years giving back to their community.
While the food bank currently has strong numbers for its regular volunteer duties, it is also exploring a new area where some specialized experience could help.
That role could include developing ideas or helping organize campaigns, with some work potentially handled by phone or email.
The community will have another chance to help Thursday, Aug. 27, during the first 92.3 WOW FM All Hands on Deck Food Drive at Jonsson’s Independent Grocer in Smiths Falls.
