Perth used last week’s AMO conference to push two major local projects higher on the provincial radar.
Town representatives met directly with provincial officials to discuss funding for a new regional recreation facility and infrastructure work connected to the upcoming Highway 7 reconstruction.
Deputy Mayor Ed McPherson, councillors Isabel Anne McRae and Gary Waterfield, CAO Michael Touw and Community Services Director Cathy McNally represented Perth at the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference.
One delegation met with Natalie Pierre, parliamentary assistant for the Ministry of Sport, to discuss the town’s plans for a regional recreation facility and the need for provincial financial support.
Perth also met with Amarjot Sandhu, parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure, about the Highway 7 project.
Town officials want to make sure municipal infrastructure improvements needed alongside the provincial reconstruction are also funded.
Parks and Recreation Ontario Acting CEO Sarah Ane joined the recreation discussion, while Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan also supported Perth’s advocacy.
For the town, the conference offered a chance to put local priorities directly in front of decision-makers and keep momentum behind two projects that could significantly shape Perth’s future.
