Young women in Lanark County will have a chance to step into the world of emergency services this fall.
The Lanark County Female First Responders Camp returns Oct. 16 and 17 at Perth Fire Services, offering a free two-day experience with local firefighters, paramedics and police officers.
Participants will take part in hands-on activities including firefighting search and rescue, auto extrication, basic first aid and CPR, and personal protective equipment training.
The camp will also feature an OPP K9 demonstration and career conversations with first responders working across the region.
Agencies taking part include Lanark County fire departments, Lanark County Paramedic Service, Smiths Falls Police Service and the Ontario Provincial Police.
The program is open to applicants who self-identify as female, are between 15 and 21 years old and live in Lanark County.
Organizers say the camp is designed for anyone considering a career in emergency services, but also for those who simply want to challenge themselves and learn new skills.
The event is being held at Perth Fire Services on Rogers Road.
Applications are now open for the October camp.
