Downtown Perth is set to host the annual event
Downtown Perth will come alive after dark on Sept. 12 as the Perth Night Market returns for its fifth year, bringing entertainment, shopping and community spirit to the heart of town.
The popular event runs from 5 p.m. until 10 p.m., with live music, a petting zoo, roaming entertainers, Bollywood dancers and other activities planned throughout the downtown.
Perth Manager of Tourism and Culture Kathryn Jamieson said organizers have worked to give visitors something new each year.
The night market has grown into an important evening for downtown merchants as well. Vendors will be positioned to keep sidewalks and storefronts easy to reach, encouraging visitors to explore local shops and restaurants.
Jamieson said the event can make a noticeable difference for businesses.
The event is also attracting attention well beyond Lanark County, with returning visitors travelling from other parts of Ontario and Quebec.
For Jamieson, seeing those visitors mix with local residents remains one of the highlights.
Local organizations are helping make the evening possible, including Hospice Hub, St. John Catholic Elementary School, Glad Tidings Pentecostal Church and the Perth Curling Club.
Organizers are also trying to make getting downtown easier.
The shuttle will drop passengers behind the Perth library, close to the centre of the festivities.
Several downtown streets will be closed during the event, including sections of Gore and Foster streets and the area around Code’s Mill.
Jamieson is encouraging visitors to explore the entire market, stop into local businesses and enjoy one more big community celebration before summer gives way to fall.
