Lanark County residents are being invited to take a stand against violence when Take Back the Night returns to Carleton Place next week.
Lanark County Interval House is organizing the annual march on Thursday, Sept. 10, with participants gathering behind Carleton Place Town Hall in the parkette starting around 5:30 p.m.
The event is designed to bring people together, raise awareness about gender-based violence and show support for safer communities.
Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says the march carries an important message.
The event is open to people of all genders, with organizers encouraging families, young people and community members to take part.
Participants will hear about local concerns and available supports before heading onto the streets of Carleton Place as a group.
Lee says Take Back the Night can also help people who may be new to the area learn more about the support systems around them.
The annual event has become a familiar September gathering in Carleton Place.
Lee says the invitation extends across the community, including local young people.
Lee says similar marches are held in communities across the region, giving residents another way to speak out against violence and become part of the solution.
