The Perth-Smiths Falls area will be part of a province-wide effort this fall to raise money for kidney research and support programs for people living with kidney disease.
The Perth-Smiths Falls Kidney Walk is set for Sunday, October 4, at Conlon Farm Chalet in Perth. Registration begins at 10 a.m., with the walk getting underway at 11 a.m.
The event is one of 30 Kidney Walks taking place across Ontario, with organizers hoping to raise more than $1 million for the fourth consecutive year.
Participants can walk in support of someone living with kidney disease, celebrate a transplant, remember a loved one or simply connect with others affected by the disease.
The Kidney Foundation says more than four million Canadians are affected by kidney disease. Funds raised through the walks support kidney research, peer support, education and programs that help patients and families navigate their journey.
Organizers say the events also provide an opportunity for people living with kidney disease, caregivers, donors, transplant recipients and health-care professionals to come together.
