Lanark-Frontenac-Kingston MPP John Jordan is backing Premier Doug Ford’s minor cabinet shuffle, which includes David Piccini taking over as Minister of Infrastructure.
Piccini is under investigation by Ontario’s integrity commissioner over his management of the province’s Skills Development Fund while serving as minister of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
Jordan says the Northumberland-Peterborough representative is a fine MPP.
The investigation was launched last year after the auditor general found the fund’s application process had not been “fair, transparent or accountable.”
The audit also found some lower-ranked applications were approved while higher-ranked projects were rejected, without adequate documentation explaining those decisions.
Another change in Ford’s cabinet sees Niagara West MPP Sam Oosterhoff become the new Minister of Agriculture, Food and Agribusiness.
Jordan also offered his assessment of the 29-year-old Oosterhoff.
Jordan says the agriculture portfolio is especially important with the ongoing trade war with the United States.
Oosterhoff has been an MPP for 10 years, first winning a 2016 by-election.
