Tay Valley Township is planning a major expansion around its Glen Tay Waste Site as it prepares for future waste management needs.
The township recently acquired a 78-acre property immediately west of the existing site at the junction of Harper and Norris roads. The new land will eventually be used to relocate the site’s recycling and re-use facilities.
Officials say the additional space will allow the township to make better use of its existing waste disposal capacity and reduce the need to truck waste to outside facilities at a higher cost.
The changes are also expected to improve traffic flow and make waste management, recycling and the popular Re-Use Centre easier and more efficient for residents.
Reeve Rob Rainer says the expansion is a major development within the township’s 10-year Waste Management Master Plan.
The new property could also provide a future location for public works vehicles and operations currently based beside the municipal building on Harper Road.
The next step will be a request for proposals for the new depot layout, expected later this fall. The process will include public consultation and updates to the Ministry’s approvals for the site.
