Carleton Place councillor Sarah Cavanagh says her approach to community service is built on collaboration, compassion and a belief in the power of people working together.
She says those values have shaped the events, initiatives and volunteer efforts she has been involved with over the years. She believes strong communities grow when people listen to one another, work together and move forward with purpose.
Her reasons for running for re-election reflect this.
A busy mother of three, Cavanagh is a Carleton Place first-term councillor, writer and volunteer.
She also works as Fund Development and Communications Coordinator with the Alzheimer Society Lanark Leeds Grenville.
She grew up in Gillies Corners and attended Caldwell and Beckwith Public Schools.
After travelling and working in different places, she eventually returned home. Her family has deep roots in Lanark County, while Carleton Place has remained central to her life, including where she met her husband and raised her children.
Cavanagh says her background in community service, partnership-building and practical problem-solving has reinforced her belief in small-town resiliency and making the most of available resources.
She says she does not have a magic wand, but is committed to listening, understanding community concerns and serving with kindness. She hopes to continue that work and help Carleton Place move forward together.
