Ian Dorward is entering the race for one of five councillor positions in Carleton Place in the 2026 municipal election.
Dorward has lived in Carleton Place for 17 years and says the community has become home.
He says he wants to give back and help the town continue to grow. He says his interest in running started with something simple.
His interest in politics goes back to his childhood. Dorward grew up in a politically involved family and recalls helping his father campaign for a young Alex Munter during a council race in Kanata.
Dorward has more than 20 years of experience as a retail manager, which he says has given him strong people skills, leadership experience and a solid understanding of financials.
He says he is not interested in simply being a “yes man” on council and wants to make decisions based on what he believes is best for Carleton Place. He feels his perspective will be a valuable asset on council.
Dorward also works in the community, managing a local retail establishment where he regularly interacts with residents. He says he wants to learn more about how the town operates while contributing to decisions about its future.
Dorward says he likes the direction Carleton Place is heading, including its population and cultural growth, and wants to help ensure the community remains a place people are proud to call home.
His campaign website is forwardwithdorward.com. He is also campaigning through Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. Hear our complete conversation with Dorward below.
