Carleton Place councillor Jeff Atkinson is seeking re-election, saying he wants to continue the work he has undertaken during his current and previous terms on council.
Atkinson says that since his first council meeting eight years ago, he has brought a forward-focused, optimistic, practical and professional approach to the role. He says the approach has produced results and earned positive feedback from residents.
Atkinson also points to the current Carleton Place council’s ability to work together despite disagreements. He says council members share a common goal of planning for the community’s future and improving the quality of life for residents and ratepayers.
According to Atkinson, councillors have generally been willing to listen to one another and work through differences to find common ground and practical solutions, without the conflict and drama seen in some other municipalities. He also highlights long-term planning as one of council’s major accomplishments over the current and previous terms.
Atkinson says planning for the next 25 years has helped provide a clearer direction for the municipality and has also positioned Carleton Place to take advantage of provincial and federal funding opportunities.
He says those grants have brought millions of dollars into the community without relying solely on local property taxes, service charges or development fees.
Atkinson says that long-term approach will help make Carleton Place a better place to live both today and in the years ahead. He says his experience makes him a good choice for voters.
