Lanark County is moving key fire communications equipment to Smiths Falls’ new water tower before the town’s old tower is taken down.
Hometown News reports the county expects to spend about $43,800 to complete the relocation this year.
Staff had originally planned to move the equipment in 2027, but the old water tower is now expected to be removed before the end of 2026.
The change means the work has to happen sooner to avoid any disruption to emergency communications.
The first phase will install antennas, cabling, a microwave link and other infrastructure at the new Air Care Drive water tower near Smiths Falls Police.
That work will cost $88,200, with Lanark County contributing $29,400.
A second phase, expected in November, will move and program the existing county equipment and complete the switch to the new site at a cost of $14,400.
The county says existing capital and emergency management budgets can cover the work.
