After 12 years around the Perth council table, Jim Boldt says he isn’t ready to step away just yet.
Boldt is seeking another term as a Perth councillor, saying his decision comes down to unfinished work — and a belief that his experience can help the town deal with some significant challenges ahead.
Among the issues facing Perth are rising municipal costs, infrastructure needs and pressure to provide services while keeping the tax burden in check.
Boldt says all this and the economic challenges of dealing with a trade war compelled him to put his name forward once again.
Boldt says 12 years on council have given him a very good understanding of how decisions get made — including the financial consequences that can sometimes come years later.
He says he brings a willingness to ask questions, look for efficiencies and challenge council to make sure taxpayers are getting value for their money.
Boldt also points to the importance of working with neighbouring municipalities and Lanark County where cooperation could save money or improve services.
With an election set to bring new faces to the council table, Boldt says his experience will count even more.
For Boldt, the pitch to voters is straightforward: after more than a decade at the council table, he believes his experience — combined with a focus on spending and accountability — can still make a difference for Perth.
And he is looking forward to sharing his insight and experience with any new members of council.
