Smiths Falls voters will get their chance to hear from the people hoping to fill seats around the council table Wednesday night.
The Rotary Club of Smiths Falls is hosting its second all-candidates meeting Oct. 7 at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95 on Main Street East.
This time, the focus is entirely on the council race.
Rotary Club representative Ken Manwell says the large field of candidates was the reason the organization decided to hold a separate evening for council hopefuls instead of combining them with the mayoral candidates.
The format is intended to give candidates an opportunity to answer questions and give residents a better idea of what they would bring to council.
The meeting comes at an important time for Smiths Falls, with change guaranteed around the council table following the election.
Peter McKenna is seeking the mayor’s chair instead of another council term, while Jay Brennan is not seeking re-election. Current Mayor Shawn Pankow is also stepping away, meaning Smiths Falls will have a new mayor following the vote.
Manwell says the Rotary Club is hoping for a strong public turnout Wednesday.
The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at the Legion at 7 Main Street East.
Smiths Falls voters will choose six councillors along with a new mayor in the municipal election.
Voting day is Monday, Oct. 26, with ballots being cast by internet or telephone.
