Climate action, local food and live music will come together this fall as Climate Network Lanark prepares to host its first annual fundraising event in Beckwith.
The group is inviting residents to Brunton Community Hall on Saturday, November 7th, for an afternoon of conversation, entertainment and fundraising aimed at supporting climate action in the region.
A highlight of the event will be keynote speaker Pauline Witzke, an environmental geologist with more than 40 years of experience.
Witzke has spent the past several years helping people understand the changing climate, breaking down complex scientific information into practical, accessible ideas.
She points to recent warming trends as things to be very aware of and concerned about.
Organizers say the fundraiser is about more than raising money.
It’s also an opportunity to bring people together, share ideas and build connections at a time when many communities are facing challenges. Witzke points to a feature of permafrost melting that increases the risks of climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions.
This methane release, in her words, will kick climate change trends into overdrive.
The afternoon will feature opportunities for conversation and fundraising activities, all in support of Climate Network Lanark’s efforts to encourage local climate action.
CNL has helped dozens of homeowners save thousands of dollars in home energy retrofits since it began back in 2022.
The group hopes the November gathering will be the start of an annual tradition, bringing together longtime supporters and newcomers interested in making a difference close to home.
The event is scheduled to run from 1 to 5 p.m. on November 7th at Brunton Community Hall in Beckwith. Tickets are $40 each and will be available through Tickets Please.
Live music will be delivered courtesy of Doug Barr, Jeff Kohl and the Rivermen.
