Over the past 50 years, boys and young men have steadily disengaged from school, work, and broader society.
They’re falling behind academically, struggling with loneliness and isolation, and facing rising rates of substance abuse and suicide.
Gone Guys is a documentary film that explores a “quiet crisis” in our communities, hidden in plain sight: the increasing disengagement and isolation of boys and young men.
Organizer Linda Chaim of the Canadian Federation of University Women Perth tells us about the first screening of this film in Canada.
The film illuminates and proposes some solutions to help this situation. It’s not an either-or choice: caring more about boys and men does not mean caring less about women and girls.
It is a matter of seeing, caring and working towards a world that values all, and promotes this with concrete action. The Gone Guys film is being presented to bring awareness and solutions for these issues.
Chaim tells us its the first step on the road to healing
CFUW Perth is hosting a screening of this film on Sunday, November 8th at the Studio Theatre Perth at 2 pm.
Tickets are available by donation through Tickets Please and all proceeds are going to Yak Youth Services. Hear our complete conversation with Chaim below.
