Two local organizations are joining forces to make sure the people they serve have a voice in their community’s future.
The Smiths Falls Community Food Bank and Falls Food Hub are working together on Feed Ontario’s annual postcard campaign.
Residents are encouraged to write down the challenges they’re facing and the changes they’d like to see in their community.
Food Bank Executive Director Natalia Soteroff told LanarkLeedsToday.ca the timing is particularly important.
Falls Food Hub Operations Lead Ashley Saunders says the partnership makes sense because both organizations hear similar concerns from the people coming to their facilities.
Soteroff says affordability and housing are likely to be major concerns. The food bank is seeing growing demand, including from people working full-time jobs who are struggling to make ends meet.
The postcards are available at both locations. Residents can complete them there or take them home. Saunders stresses that returning them is essential.
The completed postcards will be presented to Smiths Falls’ mayor following the municipal election.
For two organizations already helping neighbours through difficult times, it’s another way to make sure those voices reach the people making decisions.
