Drivers travelling near two Perth schools will soon face a new Community Safety Zone and a 40 km/h speed limit.
The Town of Perth is establishing the zone around The Queen Elizabeth School and St. John Catholic Elementary School to improve safety for students, families and pedestrians.
Town council approved the zone on August 20. The new rules will take effect once the town installs signs, which it expects to do by the end of October.
The zone will cover portions of Arthur Street, Wilson Street East, Craig Street, Grant Street, Halton Street and Robinson Street. The Ontario Provincial Police will handle traffic enforcement.
Drivers should also watch for changes to traffic and parking. A new four-way stop is in place at Wilson Street East and Halton Street, while parking locations have changed on Grant Street, Halton Street and Wilson Street East. New no-parking zones have also been introduced.
The town reminds drivers to follow posted signs, watch their speed and use extra caution during school arrival and dismissal times.
For traffic enforcement concerns, contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122. Parking concerns can be directed to Perth bylaw enforcement at 613-267-3311, ext. 2245, or bylaw@perth.ca.
