It’s a secret no longer that Metro Inc will be opening a Food Basics outlet in Carleton Place. Council’s committee recently approved a unique pre-servicing agreement to allow certain on-site infrastructure construction at 435 McNeely Avenue.
The agreement would allow Metro to move ahead with a range of preparatory work, including earthworks, water and sewer installations, storm-water management facilities, underground utilities, roadway base construction and site servicing. Hydro One and Enbridge Gas connections are also included in the proposed scope.
The agreement would require Metro to carry five-million-dollars in commercial general liability insurance, provide a security deposit equal to half the value of the on-site work, and obtain a building permit for private plumbing installations.
However, approval would not authorize connections to existing municipal mains, road-cut permits or commissioning of the infrastructure until the Development Permit Agreement is signed.
Council’s committee approved a bylaw authorizing the Town to enter into the pre-servicing agreement, allowing preliminary site work to proceed while the remaining development requirements are addressed. That work is expected to begin this fall. No estimated opening date was provided.
