For 14 years, the Perth FireDawgs have been helping local kids get active, try new sports and build confidence. Now, that dedication has earned them one of Perth’s top community honours.
The FireDawgs received the 2026 Community Involvement Award at the Perth and District Chamber of Commerce Business Achievement Awards, held October 22 at the Studio Theatre.
The award, proudly sponsored and presented each year by 88.1 myFM, recognizes outstanding contributions to the community.
Perth Fire Chief Trevor Choffe accepted the award and told myFM’s Bob Perreault that the recognition belongs to more than just his organization.
The FireDawgs’ story began about 14 years ago when they took over skating and swimming initiatives previously supported through fundraising by Perth Police.
Those programs remain at the heart of the organization, but its reach has grown considerably.
Today, the FireDawgs support recreational hockey, ball hockey, golf and other activities, along with community facilities including the Conlon Farm bike park and an outdoor sports rink.
Choffe says the real reward comes from seeing children discover something they love.
With support from the Perth and District Community Foundation, the FireDawgs are also working to protect their programs for future generations.
And they’re not finished growing. Plans are underway to explore adding a roof over the outdoor sports rink, creating even more opportunities for local youth.
For Choffe, the award is a reminder of what a caring community can accomplish when people work together.
