Perth’s incoming deputy mayor says representing the town at Lanark County council was a major reason she pursued one of its two top municipal positions.
Catherine Schouler, who was elected deputy mayor in October’s municipal election, says she wanted the opportunity to advocate for Perth and help bring funding and investment back to the community.
The mayor and deputy mayor represent Perth at Lanark County council, giving them an opportunity to advocate for local priorities and pursue funding opportunities.
Schouler says her professional background in business development has allowed her to work with companies across Canada and help forge provincial and federal relationships, experience which she intends to apply to her new role in Perth.
Offering a younger perspective on the municipal government landscape, Scholuar is well aware of the weight of decisions made at council meetings today, and what might be the result of them tomorrow.
She will begin her new role alongside mayor-elect Ed McPherson and the incoming council, which will soon turn its attention to the 2027 municipal budget.
Schouler says she is looking forward to using her professional experience to help shape the town’s future.
