From garbage bags to green bins, the Town of Perth is reminding residents that a few simple habits can make a big difference in managing household waste.
The town has launched a renewed public education campaign highlighting its waste collection services, recycling rules and options for disposing of larger items.
Director of Environmental Services Grant Machan says the goal is to make the system easier for residents to understand and use.
One of the biggest changes is the elimination of tags for regular household garbage.
Residents can now put two bags at the curb every two weeks without purchasing tags.
Additional tags cost $2 each and are available at Town Hall.
Residents with larger items, including furniture and renovation waste, can take them to Perth’s landfill at 666 Wildlife Road, where applicable disposal fees are charged by weight.
The town also continues to collect green bins weekly, helping keep food scraps and other accepted organic materials out of the landfill.
Yard waste and brush should not go into green bins. They can be taken to the landfill, with fees applying to brush.
Perth’s annual fall leaf collection is scheduled for November 16th through 20th.
Recycling has also undergone a significant change.
Ontario’s producer-run recycling system is now managed locally by Circular Materials, rather than the municipality. Perth residents continue using separate blue and yellow bins.
Machan says the transition has gone well.
Residents can check collection schedules, accepted materials and landfill fees at Perth.ca/Garbage.
