North Grenville councillor Dorreen O’Sullivan’s proposal to impound outdoor domestic cats didn’t pass at council thanks to fellow councillors’ opposition and limited resources in the municipal bylaw department.
The idea sparked controversy but was only supported by a handfull of residents.
Mayor Nancy Peckford acknowledged the debate but emphasized that they should really turn their attention to more pressing matters.
O’Sullivan was encouraged to bring up a different motion in the future.
The proposal hoped to promote responsible cat ownership and address complaints about damage, bird populations, and cat safety. Concillor O’Sullivan was the only one to vote in favour.
