Three organizations, including Lanark County Interval House have come together to launch the Rural Roots Initiative today, part of the effort to end intimate partner violence.
Pamela Cross, Advocacy Director with Luke’s Place, another group involved in its development,. has been working on the effort.
Its the first resource of its kind specifically aimed at rural areas.
It helps people understand what they need to know about identifying intimate partner violence in rural communities and lets them know ways to help family members or neighbours living with the issue.
Lanark County Interval House Executive Director Erin Lee says it’s not a step-by-step guide to dealing with the issue though.
Cross says its a vital tool to help end intimate partner violence in settings such as ours.
Lee says it’s will be vital for communities like those in Lanark and Leeds, or anywhere else.
Both Cross and Lee say the launch is timely ahead of International Women’s Day tomorrow.
