Jury recommendation 63 from the inquest into ending intimate partner violence in Ontario says the provincial government must develop a process, in consultation with the judiciary, to confirm that release conditions are properly documented.
Interval House’s Erin Lee says this recommendation is about closing gaps within the system.
She says should there be an allegation of a breach, they want to make sure that the conditions are properly documented to reduce the grey areas, to ensure people’s safety is not compromised.
Lee adds that making sure that all involved are literally on the same page is vital. Even in ways that may not come to mind first, like kids going to school.
Overall it gives organizations such as hers, and individuals, an non-negotiable outline of possible outcomes when a breech of conditions occurs.
Lee has plenty more to say about this recommendation.
