The changes coming to the $10 per day childcare program in Ontario, known as CWELCC, will result in fewer options for low-income families.
The four local childcare centres not involved in CWELCC will lose their fee subsidies that allow spots for low-income households when the province switches to cost-based funding in the new year instead of revenue replacement.
Director of Social Services Emily Hollington told Lanark County council that home childcare won’t be a viable solution to make up the difference.
The families currently involved in the fee subsidy program are protected from the switch until their child ages out of daycare, but no new applications will be accepted.
The four non-participating childcare centres include Perth’s Children House, Almonte Nursery School, Day by Day Child Care, and Natural Collections Home Child Care Agency.
