The Association of Municipal Clerks and Treasurers wants to see an update to the Municipal Elections Act, something that hasn’t been done in over 30 years.
They’ve drawn up several recommendations to modernize the act for today’s world, and are seeking support from their respective municipalities.
Smiths Falls Clerk Kerry Costello is fully on board.
Costello says there’s plenty of proposed recommendations, including making full use of schools on election day.
Costello notes schools have been used in the past but having teachers and students intersect with adults going to vote has created a little chaos in the past.
Among other things the recommendations includes calls to manage and monitor the potential impact A.I. might have on local elections.
Smiths Falls council supported the motion calling for an updated Act.
