There was a lengthy discussion around Smiths Falls fronting $50,000 annually for the next five years for the Railway Museum of Eastern Ontario.
Councillor Jennifer Miller said that guaranteed funding is incredibly beneficial.
Councillor Dawn Quinn says the RMEO does great work and attracts thousands of tourists and they should support them.
Councillor Peter McKenna doesn’t want to handcuff a future council into a deal they may not agree with.
Council ultimately decided to include the $50,000 as a placeholder in subsequent budgets but it does require approval each year, and the money must only be spent on capital projects.
