Our series “Silence Broken” keeping the fight against Intimate Partner Violence in the community eye welcome Julie Lalonde this week, a Women’s Rights Advocate and Educator on Bystander Intervention.
Lalonde says intervening in smaller communities in rural settings like our listening area, can be easier than in a big city like Ottawa where she lives now.
She says the femicide of three women in Renfrew County ten years ago, struck closer to home for many because of that familiarity.
In this week’s podcast, Lalonde explains how the inclusion of bystander intervention in the recommendations made by the jury into the inquest of the deaths of the three women is empowering to the movement.
