The RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food Campaign rolls on with stops in Perth and Lanark Highlands this weekend.
The Lanark Highlands Food Pantry is seeing more local families turning to them for help this fall, as rising food and energy costs make it harder for people to make ends meet.
Reverend Bruce North, who helps run the pantry, says overall usage has increased in recent months.
He says it’s not just those on social assistance — people from all walks of life are finding it difficult to keep food on
the table.
North says some residents hesitate to ask for help because of pride or appearances, but the food bank welcomes everyone.
Volunteers, many of whom once relied on the food bank themselves, now help others in the same situation.
With the holidays approaching, North says the pantry is already preparing for its annual Christmas hamper program, while continuing to meet daily demand for food in the community.
The Build a Mountain of Food Campaign visits Lanark at St. Andrew’s United Church, in support of the Lanark Highlands Food Pantry from 9 until noon on Saturday.
