The Smiths Falls Community Food Bank is asking residents to step up in a big way ahead of this Saturday’s RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food stop.
Volunteer Valerie Engelhardt says the staples remain the greatest need for the food bank.
Englehardt says Milk substitutes like soy and almond milk are also welcome additions, as are some special items for clients with food sensitivities.
Engelhardt says cash donations are especially valuable. Each year she prices out the standard food bucket given to a single client.
She says ongoing costs add pressure every week as the food bank buys cereal, milk, meat, vegetables and fruit to keep shelves stocked.
The RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food Smiths Falls Blitz runs Saturday, November 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jonsson’s Your Independent Grocer, Food Basics, The Garden Market and Giant Tiger. Donations support the Smiths Falls Community Food Bank.
