The Delta Food Bank is preparing for one of its busiest seasons yet, with co-chair Jana Curtis reporting a 61-per-cent increase in clients ahead of this weekend’s RCL Automotive Build A Mountain of Food stop.
Curtis says many of the clients are seniors, but they’ve seen a shift that began over the summer.
The food bank operates out of St. Paul’s Anglican Community Centre on King Street and opens on the second Tuesday of each month. Curtis says demand is growing not only for canned goods, but also personal-care items and staples like pasta sauce, tuna, and instant coffee.
A recently purchased freezer and large fridge now allow the food bank to buy frozen meat, bread, and produce when they go on sale.
Curtis says volunteers love the work and are looking forward to meeting donors this weekend in Delta, where all contributions will support local families.
