The Delta Food Bank says it is hoping for a strong turnout at this Saturday’s RCL Automotive Build a Mountain of Food stop as demand continues to rise in the community. Volunteers will be collecting donations at the Delta Country Market from 1 to 4 p.m.
Co-chair Jana Curtis says the food bank has seen a 61-per-cent increase in clients since early summer, including more families with young children. She says personal hygiene items and several key food staples are now at the top of their wish list.
Thanks to a new freezer and large fridge, the food bank can store frozen meats, bread and other bulk items when they go on sale, helping them support more clients through the winter.
Curtis says canned goods remain especially important this time of year.
She says all donations, including monetary gifts, go directly back into supporting local families.
