A 66-year-old woman from Smiths Falls is being mourned after a fatal two-vehicle collision in Leeds County on New Year’s Eve.
The Ontario Provincial Police say the crash happened on County Road 29 near New Dublin Road shortly before 2:30 p.m.
Officers with the Leeds County detachment were called to the scene after reports of a serious collision involving two vehicles.
Police say the Smiths Falls woman and a 66-year-old man from Markham were both pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the vehicle driven by the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was treated by emergency crews.
The identities of those involved have not been released.
The OPP East Region Traffic Incident Management and Enforcement team, including technical collision investigators and a collision reconstructionist, is assisting with the investigation. County Road 29 was closed for several hours as officers worked to determine what caused the crash. Details have not been released.
